🌷 Glory:

Maa Kushmanda, the fourth form of Goddess Durga, is worshipped on the fourth day of Navaratri. Her name is associated with the cosmic egg, and she is regarded as the creator of the universe. According to Hindu mythology, when eternal darkness prevailed, Maa Kushmanda created the universe with her divine smile, bringing light and life into existence. She is considered the source of all creation and is therefore known as Adiswarupa and Adishakti.

Maa Kushmanda has eight hands and is known as Ashtabhuja. She holds a Kamandalu, bow, arrow, pot of nectar (Amrit), discus, mace and lotus. In one of her hands, she holds a rosary, symbolizing spiritual blessings. Devotees believe that she blesses them with the Ashtasiddhis and Navaniddhis. She has a radiant face and a golden complexion. Maa Kushmanda is believed to reside at the core of the Sun and govern the Surya Loka.

In spiritual practice, Maa Kushmanda is associated with the Anahata Chakra. Her divine blessings are believed to promote health, prosperity and well-being. She removes obstacles and difficulties, helps devotees overcome sorrow and brings light into darkness, establishing harmony and positivity in their lives.

🌷 History:

As Kushmanda among the Navadurga, as Mahalakshmi in the Shrimad Devi Bhagavatam, and as Kamakhya in Tantric traditions, Devi is regarded as the source of all existence. She is worshipped as the Universal Mother because everything that exists is believed to originate from her. She is described as the primordial source from which Shiva, representing time; Vishnu, representing space; and Brahma, representing matter, emerge. She is therefore revered as the Mother of all gods.

The name Kushmanda is associated with the idea that the universe, or Brahmanda, emerged from her divine energy. She is the Mother Goddess of all animate and inanimate creation. Everything originates from her and ultimately returns to her. She represents both the beginning and the end of the cosmos.

Devi embodies consciousness and bliss. In her Saguna form, she is worshipped as Kamakhya, Mahalakshmi, Lalita, Kalika and through other Vidya forms. She is also revered as Nirguna Parabrahman, the formless and transcendent reality beyond ordinary perception. Thus, she is worshipped both in form and beyond form.

In her manifested form, the Goddess becomes the Divine Mother, creating life and universes. In her formless aspect, she absorbs all creation back into herself. This symbolizes the eternal cycle of creation, preservation and dissolution.

In Hindu spirituality, the Goddess is regarded as the Supreme Divine Reality. Many sacred scriptures describe her as the primordial source of the universe and identify her with Hiranyagarbha, the cosmic womb from which life emerges. Her divine nature represents the origin and sustaining power of all existence.

The teachings of Sanatana Dharma emphasize the importance of understanding the Divine beyond limitations and distinctions. The worship of Devi expresses the belief that the universal source of existence is divine and encompasses all creation.

Goddess Kushmanda is also believed to provide energy and direction to the Sun. According to this belief, the Sun derives its power from her divine energy, and Surya Loka is governed by her.
