Kalaratri – Saraswathi Devi

🌷 Mahima – History 🌷

The seventh power of Maa Durga is known as ‘Kalaratri’. Her body color is as dark as darkness. The hair on her head is scattered. The necklace around her neck emits electric light. Her three eyes are round and vast, and rays of light emanate from them. Her nostrils and breath radiate terrible flames of fire. Her vehicle is Gardhaba, or the donkey.

She bestows blessings on everyone through the Varada Mudra of one of her right hands. The other right hand displays the Abhaya Mudra. In one of her left hands, she holds an iron weapon, while the other holds a sword. Although the form of Kalaratri appears very frightening, she always bestows auspicious results. Therefore, she is also known as ‘Shubhankari’. Devotees need not feel fear or anxiety when worshipping her.

🌻 Practice:

Goddess Kalaratri is worshipped on the seventh day of Durga Navaratri. On that day, the mind of the seeker becomes fixed in the Sahasrara Chakra. For such a seeker, the spiritual attainments of the universe become readily accessible. The mind of a seeker established in this chakra remains completely focused on the divine form of Kalaratri. Through her realization, the devotee attains great spiritual merit. All sins and obstacles are believed to be destroyed, and the devotee gains inexhaustible spiritual merit.

Kalaratri Mata brings an end to wickedness. It is believed that remembering her causes the Danavas, Daityas and other demonic forces to flee in fear. Through her grace, planetary afflictions are believed to be removed. Those who worship her are protected from the fear of fire, water, wild animals, enemies and darkness. By her grace, devotees remain free from fear.

One should keep the divine form of Mother Kalaratri in one's heart and worship her with devotion. The principles of Yama and Niyama, which guide discipline and spiritual conduct, should be followed sincerely. Trikarana Shuddhi, or purity of thought, word and action, should also be maintained.

This Goddess is Sarva Shubhankari, the bestower of all auspiciousness. The blessings of those who worship her are considered infinite. We should constantly remember her, meditate upon her divine form and perform her worship with sincere devotion to receive her blessings in this world.
