🌷 Glory:
The Brahmacharini form of the Goddess represents penance, devotion and spiritual discipline. She holds a rosary in her right hand and a kamandalu (water vessel) in her left hand. Remembering her name is believed to help devotees overcome karmic bonds and attain spiritual liberation.
The second of the nine forms of Maa Durga is Brahmacharini. Here, "Brahma" signifies penance, while Brahmacharini represents the practice of austerity and spiritual determination. The Goddess is radiant, auspicious and beautiful.

🌷 History:
Parvati, the daughter of Himavanta, is worshipped as Maa Brahmacharini. To become the consort of Lord Parameswara, she followed Sage Narada's instructions and performed severe penance. Because of her intense austerities, she came to be known as Tapascharini, the Goddess of penance.
During her penance, she spent years surviving on fruits and roots. Later, she undertook even more rigorous austerities, enduring the sun and rain and eventually giving up dry leaves. As she stopped eating leaves, she became known as Aparna. She continued her penance for a long period, even abstaining from food and water.
Her mother, Mena Devi, was deeply saddened by her daughter's severe austerities. Wanting her to stop, she cried out, "U Maa!" This expression is traditionally associated with the name Uma.
The Gods, sages, Siddhas and celestial beings praised the Goddess for her extraordinary penance and devotion. They assured her that her wish to marry Lord Chandramouli would be fulfilled and encouraged her to return home.
Maa Brahmacharini's second form is believed to bless devotees with spiritual growth, sacrifice, renunciation, good conduct and self-control. Her devotees seek her grace to remain steadfast through life's challenges and achieve success in their spiritual pursuits.
On the second day of Navaratri, devotees worship Maa Brahmacharini. Her worship is associated with the Svadhisthana Chakra. Devotees believe that worshipping her strengthens concentration, devotion and spiritual progress.
